Information

Oregano, which in Greek means "splendour of the mountain",
belongs to the family of Labiatae: it is a bushy plant that can reach a
height of 70 cm and is characterized by a very intense aroma, due to its
high content in essential oils.
This aromatic plant grows spontaneously on the Madonie
mountains 1000 metres above sea level, in an uncontaminated area
benefiting from both the altitude and the sea breeze.
By exploiting the local ecotype, “Azienda Agricola Filippone” has
succeeded in cultivating a product which sharing the same
characteristics of the spontaneous oregano usually picked in our
production area.
The cultivation is carried out rigorously with biological
methods, all stages of processing are carried out by hand
without resorting to irrigations, pesticides and fertilizers but only to
sun, high mountain air and an uncontaminated soil.
That's why the Oregano produced by “Azienda Agricola Filippone” has
an unmistakable aroma and genuineness.

Characteristics

We recommend the use of oregano to flavour pizzas, potatoes, salads,
grilled meat and fish, in oil preserves and pickles.
Since ancient times, oregano has been attributed aperitif, digestive,
carminative, tonic-stimulant properties.
We present our oregano in small bunches sealed in single packets in
order to maintain its peculiar characteristics, which remain unaltered
until the crumbling.
The Oregano produced by “Azienda Agricola Filippone” is harvested,
worked and packaged rigorously by hand as required by tradition,
thus granting the maximum in quality and genuineness.
